Here we go again……

Top trends coming at you from one of my favorite sources, Realtor.com.

As usual, take this with a grain of salt. But for myself this is a mix of “so tired of this, well, duh, saw that coming, and that’s something I want!” So let’s start with the first 3:

If kitchen islands get any bigger we will start calling them “vacation spots” because, honestly, they are as big as the Hawaiian islands right now. My biggest issue with the huge island trend is that most of the space is unusable. If you can’t reach to the middle easily, why pay for all that #$%& granite, quartz, marble. The island in the article is ridiculously large and mostly non-functional, so I would put this trend under “so tired of this.”

The next item is private spaces and anyone who lived with a child during this pandemic can understand why this is now essential so this is a “well, duh” moment. Next on the list is a return to wood cabinets and moving away from white cabinetry to dark hues……. “saw that coming”!

Now to my favorite: Scullery rooms. Using the word “scullery” to describe a new trend is funny in itself. Many of us probably know this as a butler’s pantry, but by any name it is still my favorite thing if you have the room to do it. I wish I could, and I am already thinking about making my awkward bathroom off my kitchen into a scullery room!

Enjoy this article and, as I said, take it all with a grain of salt.

I consult, design, and remodel spaces that reflect the homeowner’s lifestyle and budget by getting the cost question out of the way and really listening to what my client wants and how much they have set aside for their project.
