Creating a niche

Back to decorating! Interior design isn’t all about tearing down walls, redesigning spaces, and remodeling homes (although we do a lot of that). Sometimes it’s just about creating small niches in a home that provide comfort and a pretty space.

This is a small space next to my bed that makes me smile every time I see it. It has a backdrop of a floral curtain that I made with a fabric I’ve had for years and just got the chance to us, (more on that tomorrow), a side table that was created from a hairpin base from Craigslist and an onyx top given to me from a friend. A mid century modern lamp, stack of books I am currently reading (or trying to), an old clock, and a small photo.

You don’t have to take on your whole house; you can create one spot at a time. Be selective, pick a spot that is a place you see over an over, has good natural light, and is small enough to tackle. Fill it with things you love, take chances and play with it. You may not get it right the first time or the tenth time, but remember change is good.

I consult, design, and remodel spaces that reflect the homeowner’s lifestyle and budget by getting the cost question out of the way and really listening to what my client wants and how much they have set aside for their project.
