Pulling color into a beige room

Color is something that scares people, at least when decorating a home. So it’s very easy to slip into what I call the “beige hole.” Beige, or now greige, is the safe choice that even the most sophisticated homeowners fall into.

Such is the case with a dear client who I adore! She is vibrant, smart, funny, and sophisticated but when it came to her house she was playing it safe. After many meetings, a couple paint changes, a lot of shopping and a few bottles of wine we came up with a design that pushed  her out of her comfort zone and into a space that is as beautiful as she is.

Here are a couple before pics of her living room and dining room:

And here is the after:

We kept the walls neutral but lightened them up quite a bit to show off the new artwork. When choosing the light fixtures and furnishings with metal accents, we chose a brushed gold or brass to add sophistication to the space.

There is a mix of new items like the sofa, chairs, and rug along with custom pieces like the 2 cube tables and the new mantle and finally some vintage items like the marble-top coffee table and the dining table that came right out of the homeowner’s garage. We also revamped her buffet by giving it a new color and hardware. This mix of old with new and custom gives the space an individualized look that is unique and stunning.

I consult, design, and remodel spaces that reflect the homeowner’s lifestyle and budget by getting the cost question out of the way and really listening to what my client wants and how much they have set aside for their project.
