laundry rooms are having a moment

Many of us don’t want to spend any time in the laundry room. I mean, it’s a chore, and it’s usually an ugly little room with a washer/dryer, deep wash basin, cleaning supplies and maybe a water heater. It’s usually painted white, may connect to your garage and could be housing anything from the vacuum cleaner to old paint.

But laundry rooms have come a long way baby! These little rooms that used to be after thoughts, have become a design opportunity. Clients are experimenting with color, tile, and wallpaper because it’s a small room where you can indulge your fun side. It’s a space where you can use colors and textures that you may be afraid of in your larger common areas.

I love these small opportunities, and I have very good clients that are doing just this in their tiny laundry room. We are installing dark cabinetry that will house everything from cleaning tools to pantry items to dogfood. it is also getting quartz counters, a fireclay sink, floating shelves, and large format wallpaper. We joked that all we need is a wine fridge and we may have to hold all our meetings in there going forward!

I consult, design, and remodel spaces that reflect the homeowner’s lifestyle and budget by getting the cost question out of the way and really listening to what my client wants and how much they have set aside for their project.
