Another kitchen completed

This client recently moved into her new home after a big life change. She is an avid cook and she needed a kitchen that functioned better for her. The old kitchen had some bold color choices that she wanted to change. She also wanted more light and more storage.

We went through many iterations on this due to flooring concerns as well as budgetary restrictions. She didn’t need to change the layout but definitely wanted to make it hers.

After putting together 3 different plans she was ready to move forward. The flooring was not the big issue we thought it might be and that went very smoothly. The kitchen is rather large and 1/2 of it had different flooring creating a lip that could be a tripping hazard.

After tearing the new part out, we found we could match the floors easily by laying a plywood subfloor and then running the new LVT throughout.

After that, white shaker cabinets were installed. Now, if you’re saying: “Not white shaker cabinets again,” then I get it. But not every client wants the newest trend, and white shaker is tried and true. More important than the color/door style, she needed functionality, and these cabinets give it to her. We painted the walls a sunny yellow and changed out the lighting. Thank god that fan came down!

We installed under-cabinet lighting, 2 flush mount lights and a copper chandelier over her small table. Then the counters were installed, butcher block next to the range and quartz for the rest. And finally the backsplash, which was how we added her personality to the space. She loves color and these Mexican tiles provided that!

Here are some photos of the process:

And here is the final product.

It is amazing how much brighter the kitchen is and those hand-painted tiles add so much personality and charm! Even though the kitchen has white shaker cabinets, it is far from boring. The sunny yellow wall color as well as the backsplash tile and mismatched hardware add a little whimsy to the space without it looking juvenile.

So go ahead and put your mark on your space, after all, YOU live there, you don’t need to plan for the next person. Let them worry about that.
